One of the most striking scenes in Lockwood & Co called for the creation of a blood monster, oozing and dripping down the walls of an aging mansion. Described in notes as needing to be "70% blood and 30% evil intent”, this shot required a delicate balance of realism and horror to achieve the right level of impact in the audience. The Cumulus team poured their expertise into crafting every detail of the blood monster, studying the precise way blood moves and even, memorably, attempting to recreate it (using kitchen ingredients - don’t worry we keep our crew safe!). Attention was paid to every detail - from the blood monster’s sinister texture and animated mannerisms, to the way it clung to the walls and dripped down with realistic fluidity, with the crew justifiably proud of the finished sequence and glowing feedback from the client. To further immerse audiences in the world of the show, Cumulus was tasked with creating a digital version of the mansion's ceiling through intricate set extensions. This involved recreating ornaments, gilded accents, and intricate plaster detailing that adorned the room, while integrating them smoothly into the practical set. The result was a seamless blend of practical and digital elements. Given the 'invisible' nature of much of our work, viewers are unlikely to ever know the hand we had in transporting them deeper into the dark, ghost-plagued London occupied by Lockwood & Co!
